For those who want to experience the thrill of canyoning without ropes or technical abseiling, our walk/swim canyon tours are the perfect choice. Using a lilo to float through stunning sections of the Blue Mountains canyons, you’ll wade, scramble, swim, and drift through cool, crystal-clear waters with canyon walls towering high above you.
These trips are physically demanding and best suited to confident swimmers, but the rewards are immense—long, peaceful drifts beneath sculpted sandstone cliffs, hidden pools, and wild, pristine landscapes. Wetsuits and lilos are provided, ensuring you stay comfortable throughout the day.
Canyons (walk/swim, no abseiling)
Wollangambe 1 Canyon • Lilo trip
Grade: Medium-hard, Distance: 8 km, Time: 8 hrs, Max group size: 8, Meeting Point: Mt Wilson, 8.00 am Note: Available November-April. Confident swimmers only.
Experience canyoning – walk, scramble, wade, swim and paddle your way down the Wollangambe River. This takes some effort but has rich rewards. Wetsuits and lilos are provided as the water is cool and you’re in it a long time. Float on the lilo through long sections where the canyon walls close right in to deep water. The exit track has a 4 m climb holding onto tree roots and a knotted rope, but this is done with a harness and top rope for extra security.
Wollangambe 2 Canyon • Lilo trip
Grade: Medium, Distance: 10 km, Time: 8 hrs, Max group size: 8, Meet: Mt Wilson, 8:00 am Note: Available November-April. Confident swimmers only.
Explore the lower section of the Wollangambe Canyon. There are longer swims in this beautiful section and the canyon walls close in. It is also a slightly longer day than Wollangambe 1. Wetsuits and lilos are provided as the water is cool and you are in it for a long time.
Du Faur Canyon • Lilo trip
Grade: Medium, Distance: 8 km, Time: 8 hrs, Max group size: 8, Meet: Mt Wilson, 8.00 am Note: Available November-April.
Du Faur Creek is a beautiful canyon which sees less tourist traffic than Wollangambe 1. It is upstream of Wollangambe 1 and leads into it. Du Faur Creek is narrower and more intimate than the Wollangambe. There are a number of different options for start and finish points, so this trip can be customised to spend from 2 to 5 hours on the water in addition to the 3 hours spent walking to and from the canyon entry and exit points.
