Who is behind Wollemi Wanders?
Wollemi Wanders is a family-run business inspired by a deep love for the rugged beauty and rich biodiversity of the Greater Blue Mountains - and now, the wild places of Sydney too.
Our guided experiences focus on immersion, not adrenaline (though a little thrill might sneak in if you’re canyoning!). Led by a biodiversity scientist and passionate nature guide, our walks are designed to share knowledge, spark curiosity, and help you feel connected to the landscapes around you.
As proud Blue Mountains locals, we champion fresh regional produce and local services - and with the addition of Sydney walks, we’re excited to make it even easier for more people to discover the hidden pockets of nature right on the city’s doorstep
Origin of our name
“Wollemi” refers not only to Wollemi National Park (very close to our location in Mt Wilson) but also to the Wollemi pine tree, Wollemia nobilis, a living fossil found only in a single canyon system in this national park. The exact location of the trees is a closely guarded secret so we can’t take you there, but we can show you its habitat and point out the plant species that grow alongside it.
Most importantly Wollemi is an Aboriginal word meaning “look around you, pay attention” in reference to the rugged landscape of this region, dotted with canyons and other obstacles. We also like to imagine this is a message to appreciate the area’s unique landscape, flora and fauna.
“Wanders” of course means that we go where the interest lies, i.e., our purpose is the journey, not the destination.
