Forest Therapy Walk - Lawson
Grade: Easy | Distance: 3 km | Time: 3 hrs | Max group size: 10 | Meeting Point: Lawson Swim Centre, 9.30 am
Reconnect with a Forest Therapy walk
Take a slow and mindful walk through a beautiful forest, immersing yourself in nature. Taking time for yourself, let everyday stresses drop away while you focus on the sights, sounds, scents and feel of the forest.
We know intuitively that this is good for us, and science is now catching up. This is the emerging, evidence-based public health practive of Forest Therapy. Derived from the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing”) Forest Therapy is designed for stress reduction and nature-connectedness, and has been shown to improve a range of measures of physical and mental health.
Nature is the ultimate therapist, your guide merely helps you reconnect to your roots using mindfulness, self-reflection and sensory and creative activities.
The Experience
The meeting point is 7 mins walk from Lawson train station, in Wilson Park, and the start is timed for after the morning school run. This session is ideal for those seeking relaxed immersion in nature, away from the crowds. The natural beauty of the rainforest waterfalls and a sense of isolation, despite being close to amenities, when combined with sensory activities help promote connection with nature and a sense of belonging.
We finish with a Japansese-inspired tea ceremony, allowing us to reflect on the experience and round out the day.
